chapters 5-6

In chapter 5, David and Sophie hang out a lot more and we start to see that there friendship is really strong. Sophie and David are playing in a stream when Alan, one of David's friends, sees Sophie's sixth toe. Sophie and David tell Sophie's father and thy end up needing to leave. they ask David to stay at there house for the night to give them enough time to get to the fringes. when david gets home the next day, his father has already found out about David hanging out with a deviation. David get severely punished and it makes you realize just how tough Davids father can be and how difficult his home life is. In the beginning of chapter 6, David is crying because Sophie's family got caught, this part shows just how much David cared for Sophie. I'm very disappointed that Sophie gets caught, I really hoped she wouldn't. Later in chapter 6, David expresses to his uncle Axel that he wants to run away and his uncle tells him that he should be very careful because there are a lot of dangerous places out side of Waknuk. I'm excited to see if David does choose to run away and if his uncle Axel will find the eighth telepathy speaker. In the end of chapter 6, uncle Axel is explaining to David that he might be closer to the image of God then everyone else. I'm glad that David has at least one person who cares for him in his family.

Chapters 3-4

In chapters 3 and 4 David tells us a story about his life at home. He explains that he had gotten a splinter and when his mother was bandaging it, David said he could have done it himself if he had three hands. His father was outraged that david had said that and he reprimanded him and made him get down on his knees and pray. I think that what his father did was a little overrated because David never wished for another hand but his dad had taken it that way. In chapter 4 David's uncle Axel finds out that David can speak to others through his mind and he warns David to never do it again or let anyone else find out about it. Also in this chapter there is an attack by the people of the fringes. Two of them are captured and one looks strangely similar to David's father. I think that later on in the book this will be important. I think it's really cool that David can speak telepathically and I don't think it should be a bad thing. The telepathy thing reminds me of superheroes with special powers which is super cool.

Chapters 1-2

In the first few chapters, the main person, David, is explaining a lot about the setting of the story. The first few chapters are usually about building a foundation for the rest of the story to built upon. David tells how the society is very judging about anything not normal. But when David meets Sophie it doesn't appear to him that she's not normal. I think that what David said about what the bible said is very wrong. God created everyone equally and he tells us we need to love everyone. I am surprised by how much they don't like people who are different and what David's father did about different things. This book so far reminds me of the racism in To Kill A Mockingbird. It's similar because in this book they hate all people with differences and in To Kill A Mockingbird they hate all black people. I do think this is going to be a good book and I'm excited to read more.
